Overview Ethio-Italy Polytechnic College (EIPC)

The Ethio-Italy Polytechnic College (EIPC) is a government-owned higher Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution located in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. Established under the Dire Dawa Administration (DDA) Council proclamation no. 568/2004, it aims to provide market-oriented training and industry-relevant skills. The college delivers both long-term (Levels I–V and degree programs) and short-term TVET programs across nine departments, including Metal Engineering/Manufacturing, Automotive, Electrical and Electronics, IT, Building and Road Construction, Surveying, Furniture Making, Hospitality, and Business & Finance.

With an annual enrollment capacity of 4,356 students, the college has already graduated tens of thousands of skilled technicians. Its vision is to become Ethiopia’s leading TVET institution and a Center of Excellence by 2030, with a mission of contributing to poverty reduction, job creation, and industrial development through technology-rich and entrepreneurial training.

  • Establishment: Founded in 2004 E.C. (2011/12 G.C.), through collaboration between the Ethiopian Ministry of Education and the Italian Government’s public higher TVET institutions
  • Initial Capacity: Began with four G+4 buildings (64 rooms), 15 training staff, 17 administrative staff, and 450 students across seven departments.
  • Growth: Since then, it has trained and graduated over 26,000 long-term trainees and 31,000 short-term trainees in different TVET programs. It also supports disadvantaged groups, unemployed graduates, and women through entrepreneurship and skills training.
  • Accreditation: Recognized by the Dire Dawa TVET Agency and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to provide certified training programs from Level I to V, degree programs, and short-term competency-based training.
  • Community Role: Actively engages in industry extension services, cooperative training, technology transfer, and research. It also contributes to local development, including support for low-income families, women, disabled groups, and regional TVET institutions.
  • Strategic Direction: Through the EASE (Education and Skills for Employability) Project, EIPTC is working toward becoming a Center of Excellence in Metal Manufacturing Technology, aligning with Ethiopia’s ten-year development strategy and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
