Overview of the Department  

The Department of Drafting and Surveying provides technical and practical training in land measurement, mapping, and engineering drawing. It prepares trainees to become skilled surveying technicians and draftspersons who can accurately collect, analyse, and present spatial data and technical drawings for construction, engineering, and land development projects. The program emphasizes precision, use of modern instruments, and CAD applications, enabling graduates to support civil engineers, architects, and planners in various infrastructure projects.

Laboratory and Workshop Facilities

  • Surveying Laboratory – equipped with total stations, theodolites, GPS receivers, and levelling instruments
  • Drafting Studio – with drawing boards, drafting tools, and blueprinting equipment
  • Computer Laboratory – with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and data processing software
  • Field Practice Area – designated land area for real-world surveying exercises
  • Instrument Maintenance and Storage Room – for calibration, care, and storage of equipment

Certification and Duration

  • Certification:
    • National TVET Level I – IV Certificate or Diploma in Drafting and Surveying Technology
    • Certificate of Competence (COC) awarded after successful national occupational assessment
  • Duration:
    • Regular (Day) Program: 3–4 years depending on level
    • Extension (Evening/Weekend) Program: 4–5 years
  • Short-term Courses: few days to 3 months (for skill upgrading in AutoCAD, GIS, or field surveying)
